Hot tub and deck removal.

Why the order matters
On a deck-integrated install the shell was almost always set first and the decking framed around it. That is why there is no route out: the tub is larger than the hole it sits in. So the sequence is boards up, then the shell cut, then framing and posts — and it means part of the deck is coming up whether or not you wanted the whole thing gone.
Which is why doing both is usually cheaper
If you remove the tub now and the deck next year, the surround gets cut twice and paid for twice. If the decking is tired — and a deck old enough to have a 1990s spa in it usually is — the combined job is the better economics.
What goes and what stays
- Taken: boards, joists, beams, posts, railings, the shell, cabinet, cover and the equipment pack.
- Usually taken: the ledger board against the house, with the wall made safe and weathertight where it attached.
- Quoted separately: concrete pier footings. Breaking and removing them is real work; many people leave them and build over.

Do I need a permit?
Removing a deck usually does not require one in the metro, but rules differ by municipality and HOA. Check with your city before booking if you want certainty.
Can the framing stay and only the boards go?
Yes, if you are re-decking over sound framing. Say so in your request and it can be quoted that way.
What about the hole in the siding where the ledger was?
The ledger comes off and the wall should be left safe and weathertight. Matching siding or paint is a job for a carpenter.
