Swim spa removal.

A swim spa is not a big hot tub. At 12 to 19 feet it will not turn a corner, will not clear a gate, and does not come apart in two pieces.

Swim spas price above hot tubs because of length, weight and section count — not because the work is different.

The detail

What is different about this job

Why length changes everything

A standard spa is roughly 7 ft square. Halved, each piece clears a 3 ft gate. A swim spa is 12 to 19 ft long, so halving it still leaves a 6 to 9 ft section that will not turn the corner between a house and a fence. In practice these come out in six to ten pieces rather than two to four, and the cutting is the majority of the day.

Weight is the other half

Dry, a swim spa runs roughly 1,000 to 1,800 lb before the cabinet, cover and any surround. Many have a second equipment bay — a swim jet pack separate from the heater and circulation pump — which means more metal to separate out and more plumbing to disconnect.

What gets checked before quoting

  • Overall length, not the model name — measure the shell, not the footprint of the deck.
  • The narrowest point on the route, including the turn after it, which is usually tighter than the gate.
  • Whether a fence panel can come out. Removing and refitting one panel is often cheaper than twenty extra cuts.
  • Overhead clearance for courtyards and roof terraces, where a lift is sometimes the only route.

Questions

Swim spa removal

Is a swim spa the same as an endless pool?

Functionally, for removal purposes, yes — a long shell with a jet pack at one end. Branded Endless Pools with a separate steel frame take a little longer, so send a photo rather than guess.

Can just the swim spa go and the decking stay?

Usually. If the deck was built around the spa, part of it has to come up to get the shell out, and the crew should tell you which boards before they start.

Does the power need disconnecting first?

Ask the removal company. Many isolate it at the breaker and separate the hardwired connection themselves; some prefer an electrician to do it. Either way, leave the panel accessible.
