The detail

What is different about this job

The honest part first

Not every tub is worth moving. Acrylic gets brittle with age and Colorado sun, and the frame is the part that fails: a shell that has sat on a settling base for fifteen years can crack when it is lifted and takes the plumbing with it. If that is likely, you should be told before the job rather than after, and removal plus a newer tub at the other end is often the better money.

How a move differs from a removal

Nothing is cut. The tub is drained, the power disconnected at the panel, and the shell goes onto a spa sled or dollies, on edge, to keep the load off the base. That means the route has to be genuinely wide enough — a gate that a cut-down removal would have coped with may simply rule a move out.

What to have ready

  • A prepared, level base at the destination. A spa full of water is 3,000–4,000 lb; it needs a pad or reinforced deck, not grass.
  • An electrical plan. A 240V spa circuit at the new location is an electrician’s job, not the movers’.
  • A clear route at both ends, measured at the narrowest point.

Questions

Hot tub moving

Will it be reconnected at the new place?

The crew sets it on the prepared base and can refill it. The 240V connection is licensed electrical work and should be done by an electrician.

Can it move if the only route is through the house?

Almost never intact — doorways and turns are the limit. At that point removal and replacement is usually the cheaper answer.

What if it cracks during the move?

A good crew tells you the risk beforehand. Where a tub is genuinely marginal, removal and replacement is often the better call than a move.
